Get Your Home Summer-Ready

1st December 2017

Summer is such a vibrant season, it makes us feel happy just thinking about it. From the sunshine and long days to the celebrations and late night swims, it really is the most wonderful time of the year. It’s here, so prepare your home for the summer season ahead with these tips!

Indoor-outdoor areas

Make the most of the great outdoors at home with a functional, well-designed indoor-outdoor entertaining area. Kitchens with an inside-outside flow are perfect when the weather warms up as it makes it so much easier to transport food and drinks from the kitchen to the outside area. For a seamless flow, harmonise the decor between spaces to create a cohesive entertaining zone. Choose furniture and furnishings that will really add comfort to your outdoor space, and give as much design attention to it as you would an indoor room. Think about the seating and dining possibilities, and don't forget about lighting.

Light up the night

Speaking of lighting, it is really important, and it can change the whole ambience of your outdoor area. Illuminate your patio with solar lights. They’re inexpensive, environmentally friendly, and they make the most of the glorious sunshine. Individual stake solar lights are great to line pathways, and to plant within gardens for extra sparkle. Drape fairy lights across the roof for a festive touch.

Relax by the pool

If you’re lucky enough to have a swimming pool, tidy up the area and make way for balmy nights spent in there with friends. Outdoor lounge chairs never go astray so line a few up for relaxing on before or after a swim. Make sure your pool gate is securely fastened to prevent young ones from entering the swimming area without supervision.

Fresh interiors

One of the easiest ways to give your home a fresh lease on life is by giving it a good clean up. It’s time to clear out the winter clutter and freshen up your interior. Rid your living spaces of the things you won’t be needing until next winter. This means storing away all those heavy blankets, heaters, coats and clothes. Once you’ve decluttered, it’s time for a little deep cleaning. Get into the grout in the bathroom, dust off the cobwebs, clean the carpets and curtains. You’d be surprised how much a thorough clean can change the look and feel of your home. Bring some greenery inside too, it adds a pop of colour to the home and helps purify the air.

Furniture and furnishings

Winter is all about the heavy, cozy textures, but summer is the time to take that all off. Remake your bed with lighter sheets and change the bedspread to something a little brighter. Rearrange the furniture in your living spaces for a quick home facelift. Ensure the seating is effective for socialising, and if you want to take your arrangement to the next level, see how you can make the most of the summer light with some clever furniture orientation.

Bringing your home into the summer season is really quite simple, it just takes a little bit of time. So, get your home into shape for summer and enjoy the festivities ahead. Cheers to that!
