Great Living Homes specialise in building quality two-storey homes and throughout their 25 year history the owner of the business has worked with his fantastic engineering team to develop and improve their own unique method of constructing two-storey homes (including the specialised equipment required to carry out this method of construction).

This method of construction is fondly known amongst staff as the ‘Quantum Revolution’ in two-storey design and construction or the ‘Fastbuild’ process.

Through the implementation and use of the Quantum technology Great Living Homes have been able to reduce the time taken to build a Quantum two-storey home, in one particular case a standard design was built in 24 weeks from the time of ground floor slab being loaded.

The Fastbuild process means that we build the top floor first (with a concrete slab) and then lift the top floor into place before completing the ground floor underneath.

Compared to conventional building processes, the “quantum” process saves the time added on to a build that involves working at heights, scaffolding, reduced accessibility on site and cranes. One of the most rewarding benefits of this reduced build time is the ability to save our clients a significant amount of money!

The Fastbuild process means that we build the top floor first (with a concrete slab) and then lift the top floor into place before completing the ground floor underneath. Great Living Homes are currently the only residential builder in Australia using this innovative technology, but from our experience this method is much quicker than the standard ground floor first process.

Using the Fastbuild method means we don’t need cranes, hoists or scaffolding for the construction of the home and these things alone could add up to tens of thousands of dollars in savings for our clients! This is also a safety benefit for our staff and our subcontractors because they don’t need to work at heights and our building sites are less cluttered and more accessible.

On ‘lift’ days we often have many neighbours or passers-by stopping to watch the process of lifting the top floor into place using our customised jacks, it is a truly unique experience and once the preparation is done the lift only takes a matter of minutes to complete which is the most intriguing part. We also get requests from clients (and prospective clients) wanting to witness this feat in action because it is definitely not something you see every day.

If you’re looking to build a two-storey home of your own, we’d love to tell you more about how we can save you time and money without compromising on the strength and quality of your new home.
