Sunscreen firmly wedged in our bags, it was time to jet off to sunny Broome, WA, for the 2015 HIA North West Housing Awards.
Hosted at the lovely and frecently renovated Mangrove Hotel overlooking Roebuck Bay, the event played host to 80 of the North West’s best builders and industry suppliers for a night of fun, food and well deserved recognition for some of the industry’s finest.
The group were seated outdoors, under the palms and the frangipani on a balmy Broome evening under a full moon. It was worth going up just for that scene alone.
Amongst the special guests were representatives from Perth, including HIA WA CEO John Gelavis, President Dean O’Rourke and newhomesguide.com.au Directors, Ben De Jonge and Scott Sanders.
AFL fanatics will recognise the significance of the weekend, with the Fremantle Dockers playing to stay in the finals on the Friday night and teh Wester Coast Eagles doing the same on teh Saturday. The organisers played it smart and delayed preceedings for just long enough to get the games out of the way, screening it in the bar and on big screens in the dining area too. Go Dockers! Carn Eagles!
From there, MC Pip O’Connell took over and hosted what can only be described as a superb night and a fantastic opportunity to see a wide range of local builders recognised and winning awards. The materials used in the tropics are very different and the quality of design and finishes is truly impressive and often downright inspirational. Al fresco and outdoor areas are often key requirements and featured strongly.
The winners are all published by our friends at the HIA, so we won't repat that information here. Suffice to say, congratulations should go out to all who attended, made finalists and to those who won the final awards. We were vwery happy to be there and met some intersting people and made some new friends on the night.
Thanks for having us Broome!
It was an outstanding evening and our thanks goes out to the Mangrove Hotel, the North West new home industry and again to the HIA - it was a real pleasure.
